Riane strydom

An experienced and innovative winemaker, the head of the Cavalli winemaking team. She is a respected member of the Cape winemakers guild and recognised as one of the top winemakers in South Africa.

A graduate of the University of Stellenbosch, Rianie worked a vintage in Burgundy in 1996 and in Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux, France, in 1998 to further her winemaking skills. She has travelled extensively in Europe, America and Australia in her ongoing pursuit of excellence and to gain a greater understanding of terroir and its relationship to great wine. Rianie has judged extensively in various South African wine shows and is passionate about ‘improving the breed’ of South African wine and seeing it achieve its full potential on the world stage. She earned her stripes in the South African wine industry working at Morgenhof and Haskell Vineyards, and also creating her own wine brand, Strydom wines before joining the team at Cavalli.

Cavalli’s Wine & Vineyard philosophy is to produce world class wines with a very local character and a strong identity so to be clearly recognized as from the Helderberg region, while endeavouring to be the benchmark with regards to Terroir and quality for the Helderberg in the years to come. We strive for our immediate environment to be represented in the characteristics of our wines while upholding sustainable farming practices to preserve the land which falls within the Cape Floral Kingdom, a Unesco World Heritage site.

As a ‘destination brand’ renowned for its wine, cuisine, design, architecture, indigenous landscaping and art, Cavalli has developed a loyal following of discerning patrons. The estate encompasses 100 Hectares of prime property located in the prestigious Helderberg region of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Comprising 26 Hectares of Vineyards, 10 Hectares of Indigenous Gardens, 10 Hectares of Manicured paddocks attached to a World Class Equestrian Indoor Arena, followed by a 3300 square metre public building facility which houses a 100 seater Restaurant, 350 seater Banqueting facility, 600 square metre Retail Art Gallery, Luxury Boutique and Wine Tasting Facility.
